frequently asked questions

  • Do I need to be an experienced photographer to come on one of the tours?

No, we welcome all levels of experience, from absolute beginner to highly advanced. We tailor our workshops according to tour participants.

  • What type of camera should I bring along?

Ideally you will have a digital SLR rather than a point & shoot or film camera. There will be no developing facilities available for film processing.

  • Do I need to bring a laptop?

We recommend you do bring a laptop, though this is not an essential requirement. A number of our workshops cover photo processing techniques and so having a laptop means you will get the most out of these workshops.

  • Do I need to bring a tripod?

Yes, a tripod is essential and we recommend you bring one along.

  • How many other participants will be on the tour?

There are six to eight people on each tour. In addition, Michelle and Claire are present on each tour as well as a local guide/driver and occasionally an additional photographer.

  • Will I be sharing a room with someone else?

Tour costs are based on twin-share accommodation. Please contact us if you wish to enquire about single accommodation. Supplements do apply.

  • Is there availability for non-photographers on the tours?

Our tours are obviously geared towards photographers given the workshops involved. However, depending on booking numbers, there may be spaces available for those who would like to join the tour but do not want to be involved in the photography aspect. Please contact us to discuss this further.

  • What are the health and vaccination requirements for entering South Africa, Namibia or Malawi?

Information on health and vaccination requirements is subject to constant change. Please contact your local medical practitioner or travel health clinic to find out what the latest requirements are.

  • What visas do I need to enter South Africa, Namibia or Malawi?

The Foreign and Commonwealth Office produces up-to-date travel information to help British travellers make informed decisions about travelling abroad. Please refer to www.fco.gov.uk/knowbeforeyougo.

  • Do I need to purchase travel insurance?

Yes, travel insurance cover is compulsory for all tour participants. Please ensure you purchase comprehensive travel insurance upon booking.

  • Is workshop attendance compulsory?

Obviously, we are not going to insist you attend all the workshops - after all, this is YOUR holiday! We do, however, recommend that, in order for you to get the most out of your tour, you attend the majority of them. The workshops include practical components and are designed to be fun as well as educational. Each workshop runs for approximately an hour.

  • Are there any optional activities?

Yes. We have listed these in the detailed itinerary. Please note that any optional activities you may choose incur an additional charge.

  • How much physical activity is involved in the tour?

Our tours do feature a number of hikes and walks, so a certain amount of activity will be involved. All outings can be tailored to suit different fitness levels, however, allowing you to choose between a more strenuous or a more leisurely option.
